My first print

1.) Is anything in sharp focus? Yes, I think that the buildings bricks are in sharp focus.
a.) Describe what is in focus and what is not. The building is in focus. You can clearly see what part of the school this picture was taken in. I think that the people are not in focus.
b.) If not in focus, state the cause. I think that the people weren't in focus because the picture was taken too far away from where they were.

2.) Is there good contrast? I think that there was a good contrast.

3.) Are all the rules followed? (Is the photo candid? Does the subject fill the frame? Does the photo contain action? Does it follow composition rules? Does it show "academics"?)Yes the photo does fill the fame, It also contains action because the two boys are walking. The photo also follows the composition rules.
a.) If yes, explain what techniques were used and how you followed them in your photo. The techniques that were used were, the composition rule "patters", the wall has are repeated.

4.) Is there yellowing or are there spots on the print? No there isn't.

5.) Are there print rings or spots? No there isn't.

6.) Are your negatives, contact sheet, test strip and print stored in your folder? Yes they are.

Caption
Who is in the photo? Johnny and Albert.
What are they doing? On their way to class and Albert is helping Johnny with his homework that he turned in late.
Where are they? Next to the cafeteria.
When is this happening? Today during 6th period.
Why are they doing this? Because Johnny doesn't want to get a points off on his homework grade.

Let's write a caption
Albert and Johnny are walking to class next to the cafeteria, they are both late to class because Johnny didn't do his homework so since they have class together Johnny asked Albert if he can help him do it, because Johnny doesn't want to turn it in late and get points taken off. They had seen that the hall monitor was coming so they decided to walk a little faster cause they didn't want to get in any kind of trouble.

Portraits and self-portraits - start looking

Self portrait:
Favorite professional portrait:
I think that the things that make a good photo is that the photographer takes time to look and make sure that he or she has a good picture. They are into what they do, and they actually think about what they are going to do.
I want to take a picture of someone else. Because i think that, that would be more interesting to me. Also i want my picture to be a black and white photo.

Ethics In Fashion Photography

1. List the changes that were made to the model's face in the computer.
The changes that were made in the model's face were that they made her lips bigger, fixed her hair, made her neck longer and thinner, her eyes bigger, her ears smaller, made her eyebrows longer and thicker, and her face skinnier.
2. Is it ethically acceptable to change a person's appearance like this in a photo? Why or why not?
I think that it depends, because if the model is okay with them doing that to her than there's nothing wrong with the people to change it. But it also gives people a wrong picture of how a model should really be.
3. Are there circumstances in which it would be more ethically wrong to do this type of manipulation?
Yes, because the models don't look like that in real life and they make other women feel unsecure of themselves.
4. What types of changes are OK, and what aren't?
I think that it was okay for them to fix her hair, but the rest of the things weren't. Specially when they made her face and neck look thinner.
5. Explain what you think the differences are between fashion photography and photojournalism.
In photojournalism we don't edit the pictures, like they do for fashion photography. They edit the peoples faces and their body. In photojournalism we take pictures and show people what we took a picture of and show what that person really looks like without the editing.
6. What relationship does each type of photography have to reality, and how does this affect the ethical practice of each?
It makes people think that they should look like all of the models that they see in the advertisements.

Negatives Evaluation

1. From looking at your negatives, how many of your photos do you think turned out well?
I think that only 3 of my pictures came out well.
2. How many of your photos appear like they will not turn out well? Why do you think these photos did not turn out?
I think that 7 of my pictures will turn out bad, because there was to much light coming into it. I guess I didn't fix the exposure.
3. Select the negative image that you think will turn out the best when it is printed. Why do you think this photo will turn out well?
I think that the picture that will come out the best is #7, because it is the one that you can understand the most. The focus and the exposure appear to be good.
4. What technical aspects of photography (focus, exposure, composition) do you think are present in your best negative? What evidence can you provide from the appearance of the negative to support your answer?
I think that the focus was the best technical aspect on my photos because they are all focused and they aren't blurry. I think that i just needed to look at the exposure more.
5. What advanced composition techniques that you have learned in class are present in your favorite negative?
On my favorite negative picture the composition technique that was used is "symmetry and patterns".

Photo Manipulation And Ethics

A.) The main points in the story are that photographers use photoshop to fix their photos. They add and remove things onto their photos to make them look better. By doing that some photographers get awards for their photos. Also another main point in the story is that some people use photoshop in a bad way they add things that weren't supposed to be in that picture. By doing that it might cause one of the photographers their job.
B.) I think that this kind of photo editing is unethical because the photographers are not showing what really happened, or how things really are. I also think that they use photoshop because they are unsecured of the pictures that they take.
    A.)
I think that this was the most unethical photo because it made the lady in this picture look bad. She would probably disagree with what they did to her teeth in the second article.
     B.)

I think that this was the less unethical picture because it appears to show how someone would feel if something happened to someone you loved, and the people around them would act like that. But they only changed the pole in the background.

Drug Cartels in Mexico

"Police officers routinely wear ski masks when out in public, or investigating crime scenes, to conceal their identities and protect the safety of their families." This makes it clear that even the police officers feel unsafe doing their job. They have to cover their faces so no one can recognize them and no harm will be done to their family members and loved ones. I think that its good that they are doing reports like this, so people can know whats going on around us. It isn't okay for "The cartels" to be killing so many people. I cant imagine how the people form Mexico specially the ones from Juarez feel every morning not feeling safe walking out of their house and going to work.

The picture that i chose as my favorite was the one with the officer wearing a mask over his face, has his gun in his hands, and has a lot of clothes to protect him. I think that this picture fits for background because it's background is blurry and he is the main focus. It can also fit for cropping because it only has his face and part of his upper body. I liked this picture because it has only one focus but it also shows how the police officers have to go to work so that no one would recognize who he is.

Making a Black and White print

1.) Materials:
• Lighttight film-processing tank that accepts the size of
film you plan to process
• Darkroom graduate or a 16-oz (473 mL) measuring cup
• Darkroom thermometer
• Several quart jars or bottles (glass, stainless steel, or
plastic) for processing solutions
• Stirring paddle to mix solutions
• Soft viscose sponge
• Darkroom timer or a clock with a sweep-second hand
• Scissors
• Bottle or magazine opener if you are processing film in
size135 magazines
• Protective gloves to prevent skin contact with chemicals
• Spring-type clothespins for hanging processed film to
dry
To make prints, you’ll need this equipment:
• Safelight, such as a KODAK Darkroom Lamp with a
KODAK OC Safelight Filter (light amber)
• Printing frame or enlarger
• 8 x 10-inch piece of heavy cardboard
• Four photographic processing trays a little larger than
the largest prints you plan to make (or shallow pans or
dishes made of glass, plastic, china, or stainless steel)
• Print squeegee or soft viscose sponge

2.) The chemicals you will need are:
Developer, Stop bath, fixer, and hypo-clearing agent. You can get these chemicals online at this website.
http://www.nationsphotolab.com/?gclid=CIqxmqHSh6UCFcFrKgodVi2dNQ

3.) First of all you have to make sure that there's no light going in the room where the process will occur. Than all of the chemicals are set up right, and make sure that you have everything you need, also the temperature of the chemicals have to be at an accurate temperature. Once you have everything set up you can start the process.
Now you can load the film onto the film reel, and put the film reel into the developing tank. Depending on the temperature of your chemicals that's how long you can keep the film in the chemicals. The order of how you put your film are developer, stop bath, fixer, and than the hypo-clearing agent. Finally the last step is putting your film on water for 10 minutes than remove the extra water from the film.

4.)
1. Emulsion- a composition sensitive to some or all of the actinic rays of light, consisting of one or more of the silver halides suspended in gelatin, applied in a thin layer to one surface of a film or the like.
2. Aperture- an opening, usually circular, that limits the quantity of light that can enter an instrument.
3. Masking Easel- an upright tripod for displaying something
4. Exposure- the total amount of light received by a photosensitive surface or an area of such a surface, expressed as the product of the degree of illumination and the period of illumination.
5. Safe Light- a darkroom light with a filter that transmits only those rays of the spectrum to which films, printing paper, etc., are not sensitive.
6. Dodging- to shade from exposure for a period, while exposing the remainder of the print in order to lighten or eliminate the area.
7. Burning- the baking of ceramic products to develop hardness and other properties.

Post Shoot Reflection

1. What challenges did you encounter while trying to get close, capture real moments, and capture action or emotion? Explain how you dealt with these challenges.
-The Main challenge that I had was that when I wanted to take a picture of someone I had to get close to that person and it made that person uncomfortable. So I just took some of the pictures from a far distance but not that far. Also looking through the whole was a little hard, adjusting the focus was also a little hard because I couldn't get the little black arrow in the middle.
2. What technical aspects of photography (focus, exposure, composition) did you find yourself thinking about the most? Provide a specific example of what you did to do this correctly.
-The thing that I focused myself the most was with the focus, I made sure that the arrow was always in the middle and not all the way at the bottom or at the top. Also I made sure that when I was looking at the whole I could see what was happening was clear and not blurry.
3. Explain how you attempted to use at least one of the advanced composition techniques you learned in class while shooting.
-The technique that I was thinking the most about was the "view point".
4. What would you do differently the next time you shoot to improve your photographs?
-Next time I will try to look around the school and check whats happening so that I can get some better pictures. I would not take the pictures in such a hurry like this time. Also I can try to go to the more interesting classrooms, where there's action happening.
