This premiere issue of People featured Mia Farrow on the cover biting a strand of pearls. Farrow was starring in the movie The Great Gatsby as Daisy Buchanan and the magazine cover dubbed Gatsby the years next big movie. Since this issue, People has become a popular magazine of celebrity and pop culture news and is best known for yearly special issues naming The 50 Most Beautiful People, The Best and Worst Dressed and The Sexiest Man Alive.

The lighting in this picture was very good. The pearls necklace make the picture look good, and her face expression does too. Shes not looking at the camera but her make up and her hair are done and it makes her pop out so that you know she is the main focus. I think its really nice how her shirt, scarf, necklace, and nails match the background.

Portrait and self-portrait tips and ideas

-Think about your motivation and emotions: Blankly staring at the camera rarely gets good results. Be silly, don’t be afraid to over-act. The worst that can happen is that you fill up your memory card with useless photos; but you might also find yourself with a proper gold-nugget of a self portrait.

-Use props! Are you a dad and a rocker? Bring your kid and your guitar. Are you a photographer? Add camera gear. Painter? Paint. Poet? Words. Make-up artist? Guess… You get the idea.

Environmental portrait:

 I chose this picture because i like how the picture was taken outside but, the background looks dirty, abandoned, and its in black and white but than the girl in the picture has color, a dress on and has her hair and make up done.

I like this picture because the guy has a guitar in his hand and two rows or them on each side of him and they all have the same design different colors though.

Self portrait:

 I chose this picture as my favorite because it had three different portraits but in the end it has a self portrait of himself and it seems really interesting how he took this picture.

I like this picture because of the mans face, hes acting silly and has his hands on his face doing some kind of signs.

Casual portrait:

I chose this picture because i love it, his the picture is simple but his glasses catch your attention, also i like how the air plain in the background is white and it doesn't take the attention from the focus.

I chose this picture because i like how they changed the point of view and how they created depth in it.

For my photograph i am going to take a picture of Asia, i am going to take the picture by the new tech hall by the stairs, also i am going to make sure that the focus and the lighting are in place and change the view point and create depth into the picture i wanna think of all of the rules that we have learned.

This is one of my favorites because the insect on the right side of the picture looks like another flower, but once you look at it closely you can see that it has a mouth, eyes and legs.

This is another picture that i really liked because the mountains are really big, and than you look at the town and it seems to be as big as another mountain, also I think that its really nice how they made a town in the middle of the mountains.

I chose this as my favorite picture because i like how both the ground and sky have a solid plain color, and than the smoke is purple so it calls my attention.

1. What was the best song of 2010?

I think that the best song in 2010 was "I get lonely too" by Drake. I picked this song because I could listen to it all day without getting annoyed by it, also because it can make me fall asleep and wake me up.

2. What was the best movie of 2010?

This was my favorite movie that came out in 2010, because it is funny, but it also has a lot of action going on in it. I like all of the dance moves that they do throughout the entier movie.

3. What was the most important news story of the year?

I think that the most important story of the year was that all of the people that have been killed at Mexico, it makes people insecure and afraid.

4. Who was the most important person of 2010?

The most important person was Drake because I could listen to his songs when im not feeling well and it can make me feel better.

5. What was the biggest sports OR entertainment, story OR person of 2010 (you should google what is appropriate for your choice)

I chose Wiz Khalifa because everytime that I would listen to the radio his music would be on, and most of the people that I know or ask who is their favorite singer they would say Wiz Khalifa.

1. Tell me what is the one thing that happened on your holiday that you will remember? It can be a trip, a family visit, a present, something fun.
During this beak i got to see my family together and it was a good and very happy break. We had alot of fun together and there was no drama.

2. What are your resolutions for the 2011 year?
To do good in school, pass all of my classes, and try to do everything that I have in mind.

3. What are you looking forward to in 2011?
I am really exited about turning 15, but i also can't wait for this summer because Im going to go visit my family that I havent seen in two years.

Final Exam study guide

1. Explain how to get to the server drives and your folder.

 You go to "my computer", then click on "server drives" and click on the T:drive, photojournalism, your class period, and then find your name.

2. Explain how we use blogger.com in this class

We use it to do our work and it helps us learn.

3. Explain the process of creating a pinhole camera

First you get oat meal can that is empty, second put black paper all inside of it, third cut a square close to the middle about the same size of  your finger, fifth cut a piece of foil paper a bit bigger than the square and tape it with black tape, sixth cover the top with black paper or tape to make sure that there's no light going into the pinhole, seventh make a small hole on the aluminum paper, eight put a piece of paper and a piece of tape so that way you can open and close it when your going to take your picture.

4. Explain how the pinhole camera works and how the image is transferred to the paper inside

Once you open the flap that had tape the light goes in and reflects onto the paper, but you have to make sure to open it for the exact amount of time so that your picture will come out good.

5. Know how to define and explain the 10 rules of composition, these 10 rules will be a MAJOR portion of the final and you better know how to recognize these rules, explain these rules and show me you understand them:

5a.  Rule of thirds: It's when your main object isn't in the middle of the picture.

5b. Balancing Elements: When you can clearly tell what your main object is and it's off to the side.

5c. Leading Lines: When there's a line along your picture and it leads to something.

5d. Symmetry and Patterns (repetition): When there is patters and symmetry that is man-made and it catches peoples eyes.

5e. Viewpoint: Think about where you will take the picture from it may add or take the affect from the picture.

5f. Background/simplicity: The background is clear and you can clearly see what the main object is.

5g. Create depth: You can see that the object isn't two dimensional

5h. Framing: When natural things make a frame along the picture.

5i. Cropping: When the object is to small crop the things around it and it will make it easier to tell what is the main object in the picture.

I think that action and emotion can make a picture more interesting but it can also mess it up if it comes out with blurs.

7. Explain how a photo can "tell a story"

A picture can tell a story by the way it looks and if there's people you can tell by their face expressions.

8. Explain what the word "multimedia" means and share some examples of how we have seen them in class (on the blog)

Multimedia is used to advertise peoples products so that other people will buy something using models which are fixed by photo shop. An example is the one blog that we did on the model that was used to advertise.

9. Know how to correctly write a caption. I HIGHLY suggest you rewrite the rules on your blog and find at least 2 photos on the Internet, post them on your blog and write correct captions for them. This will be a MAJOR portion of the exam as well.

2. Shutter- an opaque shield in a camera that, when tripped, admits light to expose the film or plate for a predetermined period, usually a fraction of a second. It is either built into the lens system or lies in the focal plane of the lens.
3. Exposure-  the total amount of light received by a photosensitive surface or an area of such a surface, expressed as the product of the degree of illumination and the period of illumination.
4. F-stop- the setting of an adjustable lens aperture, as indicated by an f number.

6. Negative- noting an image in which the brightness values of the subject are reproduced so that the lightest areas are shown as the darkest.

7. Positive- denoting a print or transparency showing the brightness values as they are in the subject.

8. Contact sheet- a contact print, usually of all frames of a developed roll of negative print film, used as a proof print.

9. Agitation- he act or process of agitating

10. Enlarger- an apparatus used for making projection prints, having a head for holding, illuminating, and projecting a film negative and a bed for holding a sheet of sensitized printing paper.

11. Stop bath- an acid bath or rinse for stopping the action of a developer before fixing a negative or print.

12. Fixer- a chemical substance, as sodium thiosulfate, used to promote fixation.

13. Safe light- a darkroom light with a filter that transmits only those rays of the spectrum to which films, printing paper, etc., are not sensitive.

14. Burning- the baking of ceramic products to develop hardness and other properties.

15. Dodging- to shade from exposure for a period, while exposing the remainder of the print in order to lighten or eliminate the area

1.) I am interested in the yearbook class because i think that i am better at writing captions other than stories. It is easier for me to write short stories and not long stories. But i would be okay with either of those classes because i think that i should learn to write longer stories on photos.

Abandoned Theme Parks

1. The amusement park that i would want to visit is the one named "The Rocky Point Amusement Park, Warwick, Rhode Island." I chose that one because the it looks like it was a calm place in which you could take your family and have a good time. It had a good view of the water. But now they only have the parts of the park that they couldn't sell. Also i would want to visit that amusement park because there's no risk of going in and taking pictures.

5. I think that it would be fun to document this place because we can find out why it is abandoned and the reason why they didn't fix it up and sell it. Also because this house looks like its in the middle of nowhere. I could find out what happened to the people that used to live her and the reason for them leaving this house.

 

6. I think that i would have to take another person with me just in case, cell phone, a camera of course, and a flashlight. I would probably try and do research on this place for a few days before i go see it in person.

My first print

1.) Is anything in sharp focus? Yes, I think that the buildings bricks are in sharp focus.
a.) Describe what is in focus and what is not. The building is in focus. You can clearly see what part of the school this picture was taken in. I think that the people are not in focus.
b.) If not in focus, state the cause. I think that the people weren't in focus because the picture was taken too far away from where they were.

2.) Is there good contrast? I think that there was a good contrast.

3.) Are all the rules followed? (Is the photo candid? Does the subject fill the frame? Does the photo contain action? Does it follow composition rules? Does it show "academics"?)Yes the photo does fill the fame, It also contains action because the two boys are walking. The photo also follows the composition rules.

a.) If yes, explain what techniques were used and how you followed them in your photo. The techniques that were used were, the composition rule "patters", the wall has are repeated.

4.) Is there yellowing or are there spots on the print? No there isn't.

5.) Are there print rings or spots? No there isn't.

Caption

Who is in the photo? Johnny and Albert.

What are they doing? On their way to class and Albert is helping Johnny with his homework that he turned in late.

Where are they? Next to the cafeteria.

When is this happening? Today during 6th period.

Why are they doing this? Because Johnny doesn't want to get a points off on his homework grade.

Let's write a caption

Albert and Johnny are walking to class next to the cafeteria, they are both late to class because Johnny didn't do his homework so since they have class together Johnny asked Albert if he can help him do it, because Johnny doesn't want to turn it in late and get points taken off. They had seen that the hall monitor was coming so they decided to walk a little faster cause they didn't want to get in any kind of trouble.
